GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
FOR SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT (GISE)
The Geographical
Information for Sustainable Environment (GISE) Unit
was established in 2002. It is currently located at
TCMP offices in Oysterbay. The unit has been engaged
in a number of GIS/ Remote sensing and mapping activities.
Some of them include :
Land
use and land cover change detection in the Coastal
districts of Tanzania using Lands at TM and ETM+
imagery of 1990 and 2000 respectively.
Preparation
of Wetlands maps and Atlas for the Lake Victoria
basin.
Preparation
of maps showing the distribution of Coastal and
Marine Resources
Shoreline
change detection in Kunduchi area between 1981,
1992 and 2000 using aerial photographs.
All these information are
available at our office. The Unit uses state-of-the-art-technology
in capturing, updating, integrating and mapping the
spatial and non-spatial data using the available equipment
and software.
