Directorate of
Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (DECE) with
enforcement of environmental standards as stipulated
in the environmental law and to facilitate compliance
of the same among the public and other environmental
practitioners.
In order to fulfill
its obligation the directorate has the following Specific
functions:
1.Enforcement
and ensure compliance of environmental legislation;
• Enforce environmental standards, norms, guidelines
and procedures
• Promote and facilitate enforcement of legislation
relevant to environmental management
• Ensure compliance through environmental monitoring
• Assist organizations to implement environmental
management systems (EMS), according to ISO 14OOO1
• Issuance of restoration orders/recommend for
easement orders, and save prohibition notices
• Facilitate voluntary compliance to environmental
law
2.Initiate
and evolve procedures and safeguards for prevention
of
environmental accidents;
• Facilitate development of environmental contingency
plans.
• Facilitate to develop guideline and procedures
for addressing environmental disasters
• Evolve remedial measures that address environmental
disasters
3.To undertake
any other functions assigned by the Minister responsible
for environment
• Implement any other environmental protection
and conservation strategy assigned to the Council
